Sex and the City

Columnist Carrie Bradshaw introduces her narrative style by a short story about a British girl who thought the Manhattan manner would be the same. Characters and extras on screen do some of the philosophizing about modern sex life and the life of both sexes she usually does off-screen in her column-style.

Miranda discovers she was invited at Nick's, where all guests are asked with which movie star in the prime they would have loved to do it, to make a change with all those brainless models he keeps dating. The girlfriends see models as a living nightmare as those terribly demanded competitors actually walk around in Manhattan.

Carrie is invited to stay with a married friend and her husband, Peter, at their beach house. Her trip is unexpectedly cut short when she walks in on Peter who is naked in the kitchen. Back in Manhattan, she contemplates whether there is a secret war going on between the singles and the married.

Carrie and Mr. Big keep bumping into each-other till they date at Samantha's hot restaurant PR-opening, but he cancels last minute. The cook, just Jon, is reserved for Samantha's bed, but his hot friend Sam, also twenty-something flirts with Carrie; Big turns up saying he was on time but couldn't find her, time to leave town.

After Samantha walks out of hottest restaurant Balzac, furious minor celebrities like her and Carrie can't get seated in 45 minutes, Carrie's credit card is cut in half at the shoe-shop, but 'Eurotrash' friend Amalita, a kept party-girl, picks up the bill, at her rich older Argentinian boyfriend Carlo's expense.

Carrie put asides her misgivings about a photo session for a promotional picture for her columns, to go on buses, because she was allowed to keep the sexy dress, which she wears on her first 'official' dinner date with Big, and has sex against Charlotte's Victorian restraint rules.

When she discovers that Big is dating other women, Carrie realizes that she desires a monogamous relationship with him. In the meantime, Samantha is having trouble being monogamous with her realtors. Charlotte dislikes the sexual desires of her new boyfriend.

Architect and amazing lover Jack, an ideal catch for princess Charlotte, whom she met at many disease benefits, strongly suggest a trio with another woman- the friends are divided if or how. Samantha does it with married 37-year old wine importer Ken Shear.

Carrie is presented to Stanford Blatch's adored, classy grandmother, but comes to the conclusion his being gay cancels all his qualities on her bottom line and probably in her last will. Miranda is losing her self-respect after many rejections, but turns to blind dating - just to walk out on the first man who's still willing to give it a go when they meet.

The girls attend a baby shower for their formerly hard-partying friend Laney, which leads each of them to reflect on where they are in their lives.

After weeks sharing a bed, Carrie feels comfortable actually sleeping with M. Big, yet mortified when she farts in bed, but really worried when he stops to want sex every night. It really hits her when he prefers to watch a boxing match to kissing, so she paints her apartment.

Miranda dates rising playwright Thomas John Andersen, whose only flaw is he needs to shower immediately after sex, which he blames on nun teachers; her uttering sex is not sinful gets her thrown out forever. Carrie observes churches draw classy dressers- as her Mr. Big.

After Carrie's break-up with Mr. Big, despite Charlotte's rule it takes half the duration of a relationship to get over it, she lets true fan Miranda take her and Sam to the Yankees stadium, where she accidentally catches a ball and thus meets and invites charming baseball star Joe Starr to a party but bumps into Big there.

As Carrie's birthday approaches, she finds herself at the center of a friend's domestic drama, while Samantha faces the truth, Miranda has an awakening, and Charlotte seeks solace in a new male.

Carrie ponders the theory that all Manhattan men are freaks. After Samantha found out an eligible lawyer has a masochistic closet, she decides too cheer up herself by scheduling having her fanny's fat injected in her facial cheeks. When Carrie meets charming journalist Ben, she doubled-dates with his mate Luke and Miranda.

Now none of the girls has a relationship, the quartet hits a salsa bar all night, so Carrie is late for a photo-shoot for Stanford's boyfriend Nevin's magazine; the result is worse then she ever feared. Only Samantha is absent from the power-walking, where Miranda bumps into an ex.

Charlotte falls for a widowed man she meets at a funeral. Meanwhile, Carrie mends some fences with Mr. Big.

While Charlotte has a great sell in the gallery, especially to 'power lesbians', Samantha spots her hunky gym instructor Thor, and soon has him showering with her and enjoys his creative shaving of her pubic hair, but is this really original? Carrie sneaks out to her date with Mr. Big without her friends noticing.

When Miranda's friend Jeremy Fields, a reporter in London who is often flirtatious in their emails, visits New York, Miranda is happy to put him up. However he proves more flirtatious with a local friend of hers who just decorated her apartment, and at the farewell party she throws for him, even announces their upcoming wedding.

After walking out on her date who turned out to be still married despite his claim to be divorced, Miranda is happy to be picked up by cocky barman Steve, who soon wants more then their one-night stand. Carrie believes her rekindled relationship with Mr. Big is good enough to get him to know her friends a little better.

The girls wrestle with the question how and if partners can/want to change for each-other. For Miranda this means fitting her busy schedule to lover Steves late hours as barman and cuddling appetite when she wants to start the working day. Carrie wants to stop Big ogling other women and other 'little' things.

The girls wrestle with social inequalities. When Samantha dates super-rich Harvey, she enjoys the perks she claims not to crave, but finds his relationship with female servant Sum is not as one-sided as it seems. Charlotte's date with celebrity actor Wylie Ford starts as a luxury dream.

The girls worry about long-term change. Miranda hears from her gynecologist that one of her ovaries is 'lazy', and worries therefore is she can still take her time being picky with men before going for motherhood. Charlotte hits on well with charming pastry chef Stephan.

Samanatha invites the other three girls to a restaurant opening which her PR firm gave a blatant SM theme, but rightly points out that everybody else has a fetish too, just less obvious. For Miranda one is reading historical biographies, for the man she meets browsing trough some too it's having sex in places where they can get caught.

When even her friends are sick and tired of Carrie's raving after the break-up with Mr. Big, she takes their advice to go to therapy, as everybody does in Manhattan, and gets a surprise bonus: in the waiting room she meets Seth, who proves a substitutive therapy in the flesh.

Carrie meets Miranda's ex Skipper, a sweet guy who is getting desperate as all women seem to turn him down in favor of jerks - like Kevin, the bossy colleague Miranda is dating right then. When she confesses this to her friends, this contradiction bugs her too.

Miranda considered Sunday a nightmare because children swarm everywhere, there is even a family hour at her gym, but it did allow her to meet hunky Simon Cobb, indulgent divorced father of rascal Simon, who loves to push the elevator's buttons.

Charlotte panics about her 'bed-manner' when her lover Dr. Bram Walker dozes off in bed once after a grueling day of surgery, so she takes a tantric sex class given in a very hands-on demonstration by a psychologist couple. Sam not only proclaims the dawn of pan-sexuality, but actually agrees to have a threesome with gay couple.

The girls wrestle with the onslaught of 20-something girls when they are invited to a beach party in the Hamptons. Charlotte suffers a nasty punishment for passively lying about her age: her even younger toy-boy Greg gives her crabs. Sam fires her assistant Nina, only to find she is hosting the A-list party in the Hamptons using Sam's contact list.

Three of the girls deal with loved ones from their past. For Carrie it's trying to become just good friends again with Mr. Big, who now is with Natasha and even tells her they are already engaged. For Charlotte it means the pony Taddy which threw her off as a child, or a substitute horse.

The Manhattan quartet takes the ferry to Staten Island when Carrie is on the jury for the New York Fire Department's annual male calendar finalists selection, together with a politician who's rather interested in her. Sam gets the hottest fireman in her opinion in her bed.

Carrie shares her bed and his campaign for city treasurer with Bill Kelley for weeks and Sam has a short lover.

Charlotte gets depressed just by reading all women in "The New York Times" Sunday edition wedding announcements are younger than our quartet, but stumbles on Carrie's nightmare: Mr. Big's marriage to Natasha - her answer is to spend a fortune in order to outshine the bride to be.

Carrie finds out the guy she is dating is bisexual, and because of him, she explores the bisexual community for the first time.

Carrie is attracted to a furniture maker named Aidan and starts dating but he can't date a smoker. She must decide on Aidan or smoking. Charlotte attempts to coach a bad kisser while Miranda finds difficulty in supporting Steve's pipe dream of making a half court shot at the Knick's game.

Carrie can't understand why Aidan doesn't want to sleep with her, and then feels jaded when she finds out that Aidan doesn't go for sex for the old-fashioned reason he is still romantic. She wonders if modern Manhattan girls like her are just sluts, and is he serious, or, as Samantha suggests, becoming just a friend?

Miranda and Steve are finally feeling comfortable together, until she watches the laundry. Samantha has hot nights with a doctor, and decides to follow his example taking Viagra purely for recreational purposes. Charlotte is inspired by a book to start looking for a fiancé more methodically.

Carrie is happy with Aidan. She has to attend a magazine launch party on a yacht. Aidan opts to stay out as he prefers dry land. Carrie attends the launch with Charlotte and Trey. Carrie runs into Big, and she has no way out since the yacht is already at sea. Carrie tries to be as far away from Big as possible. Big finds Carrie and confesses that he misses her and can't stop thinking about her. Big says all the right things to Carrie, but at the wrong time and a year and a half too late. Miranda gets annoyed with Steve's childish habits when he suggests they have a baby together. Miranda gives him enough hints that she is up for partner at her law firm and that this is a bad time to be thinking about babies, but Steve won't drop it and keeps bringing it up. Steve really persistent about having a kid with Miranda. Miranda says that babies are a lot of work. She will have to stay up all night and then go to work for 14 hours, since Steve has the night shift at work. Miranda speaks to Carrie since she does want one eventually and her clock is running out. Miranda wants to have a conversation with Steve, but Steve is being childish by watching a cartoon and ignores Miranda. She realizes that she already has a full-time child in the house. Miranda tells Steve that she wants to put the baby conversation on hold for a while. Miranda is simultaneously pulling in crazy hours at work in the hope of making partner. Steve suggests they get a puppy. Miranda is backed into a corner, when Steve says that he would take care of the baby and agrees. But then the puppy keeps her awake all night and Miranda is angry. She realizes that she is not the problem and that the problem is with Steve. Steve says that Miranda is sabotaging the relationship as she just not want it to work. Miranda breaks up with Steve and the next day she makes Partner at her law firm. Charlotte falls in love with Trey (a doctor with family money) after only a few weeks of dating and is convinced he's "The One". But she is taking it slow with him. Only till 2nd base so far in 2 weeks. Charlotte says that she finds Trey sexy and does not want to ruin it with him by having sex too early. Trey tells Charlotte that he loves her. Charlotte sleeps with Trey for the first time. Samantha believes she's hit menopause when her period is a week late. Her neighbor Len Schneider (Robert LuPone) is hitting on her, but he is an old loser. Samantha just ignores her. Samantha admits to the girls that she is a bit older than what she has led them to believe. Samantha is so depressed with her menopause theory that she accepts a date with Len. Len loves Cadillac and has an artificial hip. She decides to sleep with him, just to make him shut up. While having sex with Len, her period starts, and everything is back to normal again!

Miranda and Steve have fallen out of love over parenthood, they painstakingly live apart in the same flat... At Aidan Shaws's design fair, Carrie bumps into Mr. and Mrs. Big. Later, a drunken Big blurts out to Carrie that he not only wants a divorce but also wants her back.

Carrie feels guilty as hell about sleeping with Big behind Aidan's back, but re-offends when he's out of state; while Big announces he wants to leave his wife for her, she loses Aidan's dog, Pete. Charlotte's engagement-bliss withers when Trey's family's 'standard' prenuptial appears.

Charlotte's wedding planning panic is easily solved when Sam refers her to gay stylist Anthony Marantino, 'the Italian mother she never had'. Paranoid Miranda worries about a 'scary' man in a restaurant's sandwich-suit saying "eat me" in a 'woman-unfriendly way'.

When Miranda tries multi-dating, she quickly finds nobody wants a lawyer, while her same physique appeals as a "stewardess". Things get interesting for her when she decides to date a doctor - At Charlotte's rehearsal dinner, Samantha hooks up with Trey's cousin Caleb, even if she can't understand his Edinburgh accent.

Charlotte is getting sexually desperate after a 'dry' honeymoon in the Bermudas, so she literally measures Trey's nocturnal erection. Meanwhile Carrie, whose column got the interest of a small Hollywood production company, travels to Los Angeles with Samantha and Miranda, in order to escape from their New York sorrows.

In L.A., Carrie feels naked after a reputed wax beautician, the famous but unintelligible Alicia, gave her an extreme Brazilian. Miranda meets with her former nerdy and jaded New Yorker friend, script writer Lew, who seems to be happy after moving to California.

34-year old Miranda feels a teenage girl again when her dentist gives her braces. Samantha is jealous of a 13-year old, super-rich client, who seems to have skipped the teen years altogether. Carrie's gorgeous younger boyfriend Wade "Superboy" Adams is a comics-shop-clerk.

Miranda thinks she's been stood up until she finds out her date died of a heart attack. She agrees to go to the wake, where she meets a great guy who used to date Carrie, who warns Miranda he has a nasty side. When Charlotte tells her friends Trey is now sexually interested in her but still can't perform.

Upset by a hateful glance from Natasha who saw the quartet in a restaurant, Carrie loses her way and gets robbed of not just valuables but, far worse, her favorite designer sandals. When she files a report, the NYPD detective and Miranda immediately fall for each other.

Carrie and Samantha deal with noisy neighbours, and Miranda fears that the takeout lady laughs at her for ordering for one.

When the quartet is invited to an engagement party, Carrie and Miranda feel like outcasts - singles without marriage prospects. Samantha picks up a TV agent, but soon switches her attentions to a physically attractive Franciscan, and offers her charitable PR services in a vain attempt to seduce him.

While Carrie and Stanford hang out at the bar of Brasserie 8 1/2 in midtown Manhattan, they run into Lynn Cameron, an old friend, who is producing a NY fashion show featuring real models and famous New Yorkers as models. She insists Carrie model in the show for her.

Miranda is dating Doug, a respected professional, but just can't get comfortable with his loose sense of toilet intimacy. On a 'non-date' with Mr. Big Carrie meets and gets attracted to Jazz musician Ray King, who turns out to own two clubs and is interested in her too.

Carrie has another date with Ray King at his place, and confesses she doesn't really like jazz, because it makes no sense; she tells the girls she had the most intense orgasm in her life. Miranda claims to have sworn of sex indefinitely; her alternatives are sweets and TV, rapidly becoming a chocoholic.

While Miranda has the feeling there is a ghost in her apartment, Carrie feels haunted when she gets an invitation for the new bar opened by Steve Brady and her own ex Aiden Shaw, but considers he must go as a step to becoming friends again.

Samantha's lover Warren is great in bed, but addicted to something the quartet hates: baby-talk. Miranda finds an attractive man while training for the marathon whom she welcomes in her bed, but is in doubt about his tongue's interest in her rear.

Carrie is happy back with Aidan but gets a call from Big. Now she has opted for motherhood and society life, Charlotte wants to quit her gallery job and interviews potential successors. Samantha reviles taxi-thieves but still lands in bed with Brad.

Carrie finally gives her house key to Aidan, but he still feels kept out of her life when she refuses to accept a new laptop from him after hers broke down mysteriously, while she didn't even know the concept of backups, let alone zip drives.

When Miranda learns Steve has testicular cancer, she gives him a 'kick in the balls' about taking it serious and then feels guilty, but he ends up thanking her for making him get the best possible care. Samantha can have orgasms again but freaks out every time a date asks about her plans for the weekend.

Since Steve's testicular amputation, balls are a sensitive subject; he even wants a prosthesis, however supportive Miranda insists they don't matter to women. Now his movie star- girlfriend has dumped him, Carrie must receive heart-broken Mr. Big at pissed-off Aidan's cabin.

To her horror, Miranda is pregnant after one single night with Steve. After she told the girls including her intention to abort, Charlotte walks out envious and disgusted; Carrie tells Aidan after making him swear not to tell, so he must sit by how his buddy Steve may lose his baby without even knowing.

When Carrie's apartment is going co-op, Aidan proposes they buy it together. She finds a ring in his things, and accidentally insults Miranda who helped pick it out. Trey's MD tries to control Charlotte's reproductive zeal in light of the tough statistics of in vitro fertilization.

Carrie finds living together with Aidan cramps their space, literally as well as figuratively in secret singular behavior. Samantha is hot enough on Richard to give him a blow job, even in his glass wall-office, but resists any romance. Trey is ready to get on with life without a baby.

The girls spend a hot night at the gay club Trade, dancing in a sea of bare-chest good-looking men. Carrie meets sexy, Australian shoe importer -wow!- Oliver Spencer, to Stanford's envy. Samantha gets so high on beefcake, XTC and naked dicks in the gents that she tells Richard during hot sex she loves him, but gets no response.

In order to get over her divorce, Charlotte takes up tap-dancing, but it doesn't solve her emotional state. Moreover, Richard has enough confidence to admit doing it with Bebe and invite Samantha to join him in the luxury shower in one breath.

Carrie has an opportunity to buy her apartment since it's going coop, but without her ex-fiancé Aidan can't get enough capital together, so she must consider a cheaper lifestyle; Miranda calculates she wasted some $40,000 on her shoe obsession.

Carrie presents her first free-lance article to the Vogue editors, who react completely differently: Enid barks it's simply 'her column', so 'not Vogue', but Julian takes to her - perhaps even too much. Richard says he doesn't want to celebrate his birthday.

Big tells Carrie he's moving to Napa Valley, but their last night together is interrupted when Miranda goes into labor; Samantha suspects Richard of cheating.

Miranda is determined not to become a mental full-time-mother, but the reality of breastfeeding is inescapable. Charlotte blurts out to believe the theory everyone only gets two great loves. Carrie is alone but determined to enjoy the countless forms of entertainment in New York.

Samantha's announcement she's giving Richard another chance after his unfaithfulness, as nobody's perfect and it was 'only sex', is such a bomb-shell that even Charlotte makes an obscene gesture. Although Miranda is atheist, she can't deny Steve's entire Catholic family having the baby baptized.

Carrie is bored as if there was no entertainment anywhere in New York, so she insists on celebrating Charlotte's 36th birthday together; Samantha had promised Richard to join him to Atlantic City, but when she tells him he invites the whole quartet to the Taj Mahal casino.

When Carrie is shown the all too naked cover her publishers planned for her columns book, she's shocked, it just screams hooker, so she turns to Samantha who accepts to do her PR for peanuts. Charlotte swallows her pride to seek hope in another advice book.

Samantha supervises Anthony at the preparations for Carrie's book presentation party. At her publishers, she meets another author, Jack Berger; they hit it off and have a lovely day. However, she invites him to the book party does he decline.

Miranda feels a double failure as neither motherhood nor professional life can get her full attention, and her neighbors give her dirty looks about her screaming baby. Samantha feels her own problems, such as a broken vibrator, are no less important.

Since Samantha is bored with the city enough to rename it "Same York", Carrie invites her along to her book-signing, a long train journey to San Francisco- alas it's less of the Oriental Express than the New York Sub: tiny 'de luxe' quarters and men who are faithful to their wives.

The women head to the Hamptons for the wedding of a flamboyant lounge singer; Charlotte's affair with her lawyer takes an interesting turn.

Carrie has overslept and rushes like crazy though bogged-down traffic, for she has the honor to open Wall Street by ringing the bell, and has her first 'official' date with Jack Berger, but takes the girls' advice to date simultaneously, notably graphic designer Applegate, a disaster.

Carrie is taken with her romantic Berger, except when it comes to taking her in bed, and admits it to the other girls in the vegan restaurant where the cooking is so light it deserves the name Raw (but restaurant?)- where Samantha dragged them just because the waiter is too hot to miss out on.

Carrie finally sees Berger's apartment, and likes it but hears it's the work of his ex Lauren, just as his sleeping sounds machine. Big suddenly phones her from California. Charlotte aces her Judaism classes, but is shocked that she must abandon all Christian traditions, even Christmas trinkets.

Charlotte is shocked and Berger slightly embarrassed when Samantha enthusiastically explains how she enjoys role-plays with her sexy actor Jerry "Smith" Jerrod. Miranda is relieved when he says a man not calling her back just means not interested, as men don't send sexual double messages.

Carrie drags Berger along shopping to Prada, and brags with a check from her publisher for success in Europe, but learns then her publisher dumped both her supervisor Courtney and Berger; when he takes her on a rather wild bike ride, she freaks out.

Carrie finds being an 'irreplacable' freelance writer is not an excuse to dodge jury duty. After her break-up with Harry, Charlotte keeps going to synagogue alone, where Jewish ladies swarm to match her to their eligible sons, but she dishes neither till Harry reappears.

The quartet's morning meeting hears counterbalancing news: Charlotte is elated to show her engagement ring from Harry while Carrie, infuriatingly pissed off, is determined not to make the day 'the day she got broke up with a post-it', as Berger chose this excessively succinct medium to beat her to the dumping line.

Vogue sends Carrie to report on the latest fitness craze, trapeze 'flying', and she's hooked. Charlotte and Harry prepare for her second perfect wedding, helped by Anthony. Harry's funny friend Howie gets on with Carrie, but in bed drills like a rabbit.

Carrie has no luck at a baby shower: Stanford snatched the last good gift from the list, and host Kyra makes everybody take off their shoes. Carrie's Manolos disappear and Miranda insists she should be compensated. Kyra offers to pay for them until she finds out they cost $485.

Carrie agrees to a reunion to see how her high-school crush -whom she dumped- is, and finds Jeremy got even more attractive. Back in hot Manhattan Samantha can't get through the waiting list for Soho House club which has a pool with service, but picks up someone's forgotten pass.

Carrie hears Big is in New York to get a 'routine' heart operation and fears for his life; sharing his convalescence makes them close again, but not for long. Miranda is getting on with her neighbor and boyfriend Dr. Robert Leeds, enough to take her first true day off work ever to spend in bed with him.

When Carrie follows Charlotte to a performance by a woman in Chelsea who speaks nor eats, she meets famous Russian painter and sculptor Aleksandr Petrovsky, who is intrigued by Carrie's cavalier attitude. Samantha, who bravely announces she is 45 and getting glasses, tries to rejuvenate herself by an intimate hair-coloring.

After three weeks, Carrie gets a written invitation from Aleksandr; they start flirting and end up in bed. Charlotte looks for a new perfume and a volunteer career while waiting for another pregnancy. Miranda would be happy back with Steve, but keeps bumping into unforgiving yesterday's perfect man Robert.

Miranda and Steve exchange good intentions and she proposes to him, instantly sealed with a kiss; the girls wonder what to buy her, not too domestic etcetera. Carrie admires Aleksander's piano playing and poetry reading but isn't really comfortable with such old-fashioned romancing.

Carrie feels extremely welcome with Aleksandr when he spontaneously gives her keys and even the alarm code, which she can't remember. When the girls hear Miranda and Steve are going on a a honeymoon - according to Sam, 'sex with room service' - they offer to babysit Brady.

After eating at restaurants of various exotic nationalities, Aleksandr decides to cook in Carrie's apartment, where he sees and kills a mouse. What she really cannot handle is his insistence to be open about death, even from breast cancer, while she insists on avoiding the subject.

Carrie is embarrassed to be presented to Aleksandr's artistic friends now that he's getting another Paris exposition and enjoys four cold days in his apartment. Miranda is grumpy during their move to Brooklyn, but Steve delivers in every respect.

Carrie finally has a chance to present everybody to Aleksandr at a dinner, but he's rather aloof and drops the bombshell that he expects her to move with him to Paris for good. Samantha and Charlotte act supportive after some questions, but Miranda doesn't hide she's dead against the idea.

Just when Carrie is almost ready to leave for Paris for good, Mr. Big shows up in his limousine - yet she walks away from him for her last dinner with the girls, where Charlotte cries and Miranda makes up. Samantha has her personal input, from nature and experience, concerning a cancer benefit.

Carrie has lunch with Petrovsky's ex Juliette B. who tells her he always gives priority to his art above his partner- she finds that true and has a generally bad time. Charlotte prepares with Anthony to receive her promised adoption baby's birth parents.
